Commonly known in the world as oregano, oregano is an aromatic spice that makes any dish taste and smell better. However, not everyone knows that oregano also has great health benefits. The oil extracted from the leaves of marjoram contains ingredients that can improve the functioning of the whole body, and its beneficial effects have been appreciated since ancient times in the Mediterranean countries.

Oregano oil - properties

Oregano is a common plant found in Europe, Asia, and North Africa. It can be found everywhere in Poland and is commonly referred to as "wild marjoram". It turns out that the extract from the leaves of this unassuming, widespread and common plant contains such valuable minerals, vitamins and nutrients as:

• flavonoids such as luteolin and apigenin,
• Thymolöl,
• Carvacrol ,
• Tannin,
• acids: coffee, rosemary and ursol ,
• Phytosterine,
• vitamins A, C, E and K,
• B-Vitamine,
• folic acid,
• Potassium, Selenium, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Phosphorus and Zinc.

Oregano oil has antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and expectorant properties. It helps to positively influence the strengthening of the immune system, supports the proper functioning of the liver and digestive tract. It is therefore advisable to take it preventively, especially in winter, in times of increased susceptibility to colds or flu. Importantly, the oil cannot be drunk directly and the amount of drops recommended by the manufacturer and stated on the package should be diluted in a glass of water. The oil prepared in this way can be consumed for a week, after which it is good to take a break for a few days.

Oregano Oil – what it helps against

This oil is used as an aid mainly for such ailments as:

• food poisoning,
• digestive problems and bloating,
• headache and toothache,
• Mycoses and infections of the digestive system, as in the case of Candida albicans , Helicobacteria pylori or E. coli poisoning,
• Colds and upper respiratory tract infections - helps relieve cough, facilitates expectoration, reduces nasal swelling with runny nose.

Oregano oil can also be successfully used externally, e.g. for inhalation for severe colds and congested sinuses, and thanks to its antibacterial properties against blemishes such as acne.

Oregano oil - contraindications

Oregano extract is a relatively safe supplement provided we don't exceed the recommended dose. Properly diluted or applied directly to the skin, it can also be used by children. Particular attention should be paid to people suffering from chronic diseases of the digestive system. It is not recommended to use oregano oil for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
